Embassy Chef Challenge: Results are in

By | Published | No Comments

Chef Nathan Bates of the New Zealand Embassy is the winner of this year’s Embassy Chef Challenge.

While it’s true that we were rooting for Ismar Reyes, the chef-proprietor of El Nopalito Grill, who was featured in Hola Cultura’s webumentary, “El Arte de la Cocina/Kitchen Arts,” Bates must have done something right. He swept all three awards at last night’s gala: the Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice and the Embassy Chef Challenge. Congratulations Chef Bates!

It’s hard not to be happy for the New Zealanders, especially since Ismar did not go unnoticed for his obvious culinary talents, as well as his artistic flare. D.C. celebrity chef Carla Hall, a “Top Chef” alum and co-host of the food show, “The Chew,” told WTOP’s Stephanie Steinberg that “El Salvador’s ceviche and Korea’s dangun rolls won her over with their presentation.” See Steinberg’s photo essay on the competition here.

All and all, the Embassy of El Salvador summed things up pretty well:
