Saturday: The art of writing the artist statement

By | Published | No Comments

You know how they say math and writing use different sides of the brain, which explains why people who are good at one are often the pitts at the other? I’ve often wonder if the same is true of artists and writers. While some visual artists are wonderful with words, others seems to express themselves beautifully in images but could use some serious coaching in what to say about their art.

If you fall into the latter category, help is on the way this weekend. Saturday afternoon the Art League Gallery offers “Art*iculation,” a lecture on this very topic.

From the announcement:

How do you write an effective artist’s statement — one that speaks from the core of your personal vision? Or how do you write an artist’s statement when you don’t have a clear, unified idea of what your core vision is? David Hazard is a professional writing coach and publishing consultant who has worked with artists for more than 25 years, helping them communicate effectively — whether in creating their artist’s statements or coaching them through development and marketing of their books and other published products.
