Latino Americans: 500 years of history

PrintToday at 6:30 p.m., Hola Cultura and Ana Patricia Rodriguez invite you to join us for a film chronicling a little-known chapter in the history of Latinos in the U.S. followed by discussion and homemade empanadas.

EPISODE SIX of this award-winning PBS documentary series, “Peril and Promise (1980-2000)”, examines a time when Central American refugees fleeing U.S.-backed civil wars began arriving in large numbers in Washington DC and other parts of the country. University of Maryland professor Dr. Ana Patricia Rodriguez will lead a post-film discussion of how the new arrivals have contributed to the cultural mosaic represented by U.S. Latinos, the nation’s largest minority group.
